Peter II of Portugal

Reign: 1683 – 1706
Life: 1648–1706

He was the fifth and last child of John IV and Luisa de Guzmán. 1683 to 1706), the third son of IV, who founded the Braganza ruling dynasty and secured the independence of Portugal from Spain. The so-called Law of the Cortes of Lamego prevented the marriage of an heiress with a foreign prince. Portuguese and Allied forces, under the command of the Marquis of Minas , captured Madrid in 1706, during the campaign which ended in the Allied defeat at Almansa .

During Peter II of Portugal's reign, Louis XIV of France ruled France, Aurangzeb ruled Mughal Empire, and Kangxi Emperor ruled China.
